MAN Diesel & Turbo has recently completed a job worthy of attention; retrofitting a turbocharger on a North Sea ship within just 5 weeks from inquiry to completion. The Sjurdaberg ship was built in 1985 and has been successfully sailing northern seas for more than 30 years. it is equipped with a MAN 9L28/32A Alpha engine built in 1984 and a NA34/K turbocharger. Gottfried Eberle, the retrofitting project manager for MAN Diesel & Turbo, said: "During the installation, we replaced the original axial MAN NA34/K turbocharger with a modern, radial one of the MAN TCR20 type. The main advantages of the new turbocharger are its small size and efficiency, as well as a short response time in the event of a load change.“.
