Renewable energy is seen as vital in global efforts to combat climate change. But so far they are acting to limit the amount the world turns to fossil fuels to meet its energy needs. Global demand increased by 389 terawatt hours (TWh) in the first half of 2022, while wind, solar and hydropower combined increased by 416 TWh.
