Adriadiesel remarkable achievements

Written by

One of the most remarkable achievements of Adriadiesel was its role in preventing a bigger disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine in 1986. When the reactor 4 exploded, causing a massive fire and radiation leak, the power supply to the cooling pumps for the main reactor was cut off. Without cooling, the reactor core could have melted down and released even more radioactive material into the environment.

Fortunately, the Chernobyl power plant had four backup diesel generators that were equipped with ADRIA 40 engines preinstalled by Adriadiesel. These engines were able to start automatically and provide electricity to the cooling pumps for several days, until external power was restored. Thanks to the reliability and performance of the ADRIA-40 engines, the reactor core was kept under control and averted an even worse catastrophe.

This story illustrates the quality and durability of Adriadiesel's products and services, which have been recognized and appreciated by customers from more than 50 countries around the world. Adriadiesel continues to produce and maintain diesel engines for ships, power plants, and emergency generators, as well as spare parts for ADRIA 40 and MAN Diesel SE engines. Adriadiesel is also committed to developing sustainable and green energy solutions for the future.

More about Adriadiesel

Adriadiesel is a company based in Karlovac, Croatia, that produces and services diesel engines and other power plant equipment. Adriadiesel has a long history of innovation and excellence, dating back to 1949 when it was established as part of the Jugoturbina industrial complex. Since then, Adriadiesel has delivered more than 1580 engines with more than 2000 MW of power to over 50 countries worldwide. Adriadiesel is also committed to developing renewable technologies and reducing its environmental impact.

The Philippine Department of Energy and the Copenhagen Infrastructure New Markets Fund (CINMF) have signed three contracts for offshore wind energy development projects with a total installed capacity of 2,000 MW. These projects are expected to provide enough electricity for 1 million homes and offset around 2.9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The projects will be located in the provinces of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur, Northern Samar and Pangasinan, and offshore La Union. The Philippines aims to increase the share of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and tidal power in its energy mix to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040, equivalent to about one-fifth of its electricity supply by then .

Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced that he will quadruple the state's installed offshore wind capacity to 8.5 GW by 2035 as part of his drive to achieve 100 percent clean energy by 2035. There are currently proposals for more than 6,100 MW of offshore wind in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island and Virginia, including nearly 1,000 MW by Skipjack Offshore En4ergy LLC in Maryland. The former site of the Bethlehem Steel Works in Baltimore will serve as a logistics center for the wind turbines, which Moore said will create 15,000 jobs. The timeline for Maryland's new proposed wind capacity is unclear.
